2 American Girls in Paris

As soon as we settled into our apartment in Paris we set out to explore the city.  One of the first (and favorite) things we found was Parc Montsouris.  It's about a 10 minute walk from our apartment in the South East part of Paris, and is a huge park with beautiful flowers, some wonderful statues, a pond with swans (white swans and black swans) and most importantly a yummy little crepe stand!

There were wild red poppies all over Rome and I fell in love with them there, so when I saw these beauties in an array of vibrant colors in the park in Paris I was stoked.  They were so big and gorgeous and happy :)  Poppies are now one of my favorite flowers I just love them!

Another reason I loved the park was because it had all these windy little paths and beautiful little secrets around each corner.  While walking down one path we stumbled upon this golden clad statue and of course had to take the obligitory "pose like the statue" picture.  We also found a pretty waterfall with a koi fish pond at the bottom that is under an umbrella of tree branches that almost make a little room.

As I mentioned before, one of the best things about this park is the little crepe stand by the lake, as seen here from across the water.  They were the only place in Paris that had what turned out to be my favorite flavor of crepe, sucre de fleur d'oranger, which I am happy to say I can now pronounce beautifully thanks to the man at the stand that repeated it for us until we got it! (It means sugar and orange blossom by the way).

We had quite a few crepes while in Paris and from nutella to jam this one was my favorite!  It was just sweet enought to be yummy and still light enough not to be overwhelming so you can actually take more than two bites of it.

The other thing this crepe has going for it is the fantastic view and setting in which you get to eat it in.  Maybe that's what makes it taste so good!

Remember those swans I mentioned?  Here's a pic!  I've never seen a black swan before so I was intrigued when we came across them at Parc Montsouris.  They made for a great spectacle to watch as we sat and ate our crepes in the park.

One of our other favorite things in Paris are the bridges and the river, The Seine.  There are walking paths all along the river, both at street level and down by the water, and you can walk along pretty much the entire length of the Seine through Paris past all the amazing bridges and sights.  We walked here and there along the river several times, and once we took an afternoon to stroll along just about the entire thing!  Here are some pictures of our river walking times along the Seine.

Beautiful views along the river

It seemed like as we walked along the river the photo ops kept getting better and better.  I'm pretty sure we have a selection of about 1000 "Bridge/River/Eiffel Tower" pictures after our time in Paris.

The fanciest bridge is probably the bridge from the Concord.  It has huge gold statues at the ends and intricate lamp posts all across it.

Some of the bridges are simple pedestrian bridges, with basic wooden construction where you can see through to the water below, and others are elaborate, huge creations decorated with statues and relief sculptures all along the sides.  Each one has it's own unique look and personality and I'm glad we had enough time in Paris to be able to take the time to leisurely walk along them and see each one!

At the end of this bridge you can see through to the two towers of Notre Dame. (The squarish towers in the picture above on the right)

This bridge with the stature of the man on a horse is Pont Neuf, which means "New Bridge" but is actually the oldest bridge in Paris!

One of the more interesting things we saw as we were walking along the river one day was this police boat and SCUBA divers.  They were swimming around searching for something (which of course we assumed was a body considering the medical boat with a stretcher on board).  We never saw the conclusion though, so I guess we'll never know what they pulled out the the Seine that day!

Here'as another random Paris awesome thing for you.  The Arts et Metiers Metro Station is decorated in the steampunk style, with bronze colored walls and huge gears on the ceiling.  It also has some little space satellite models in the walls.  It may be because it is the closest stop to the Arts et Metiers Museum, which is kinda like a science and technology history museum (more on that later) but it's totally random and completely awesome.  For some reason I was just totally impressed by it!  It's the little things right?

 Well done Paris.  Well done.
